things, things, things
Artist: Esther Sorg
there are three things i aim to be:
strength for the weak
warmth for the cold
and cheer for a wounded soul
three things to keep:
a leaf, for a memory
a stone, for the weight
and an acorn, for changes and growth
three to avoid:
a bear with cubs
a lake with ice
and a man who is never wrong
three things to find:
something tender
something small
and something that you once had lost
three things to run from:
the past
the future
and bees
three things i am:
made of skin and blood and bones
hungry for foods i cannot eat
and soft, like grass growing under a willow tree
three things i need:
a hearth to host me
a bed to rest me
and the company of a well-loved friend
three things under earth:
the roots of the mountains that bore us
the tunnels of burrowing things
and the bodies of those from before
three things beyond heaven:
the burning bright stars stuck in figures
the sailors who follow the moon
and the promise of vast nothingness
three things to hold:
a hand
a breath
and the gaze of someone you will love
three to let go:
the past
the future
and bees
three things to believe in:
the turn of the tide
the change in the weather
and that flowers return in the spring
three to want:
a love i can see with my eyes closed
a way through the dark without fear
and a dream i recall in the morning
three to lose:
the fear of rejection and process
the respect of an unrighteous man
and the need to be right all the time
three things i can control:
the steps i take
the people i hurt
and the words that i choose to speak
three things i can’t:
the past
the future
and bees
