this is how you make an ancestor

leave it upon the window sill 
look closely
don’t blink

in the rays of light 
that trickle in
is life in pirouette

stand tall
cry long
laugh loud

these be tokens 
you must pay 
to inherit the present

for they’re not lost
but locked 
in the last breath

inhale 
wisdom
exhale 
love
inhale 
power

gently now
resuscitate them
