Sky presses against the window
Trees bend branches toward me
Spring pushes against winter
Cardinals survey a nesting site.

Two cats on my lap,
coffee by my side,
and the window
converge with
the sharpness of my pencil,
the lines of my notebook,
the limits of my words.

The long, long day
with its long, long clouds
and you, coming home at last, reading this.
